W drugiej połowie XX wieku przekonaliśmy się na przykład, że niektóre pestycydy stosowane w produkcji żywności nie są bezpieczne dla zdrowia, jak wcześniej sądzono. “Zostały one wycofane z obrotu – czołowym przykładem jest słynne DDT – a ich miejsce zajęły inne środki. Nie wiemy jednak, czy są one na pewno lepsze.”
